Green Bamboo serves as an excellent option for a low-maintenance, tall hedge. This evergreen plant grows rapidly and features robust canes. However, it can be invasive, making it suitable for spacious areas or when planted in a pot that is at least twice the size of its root system, even if placed underground. Alternatively, it can thrive in slightly drier soil, which is not its preferred condition. Under optimal circumstances, it can reach heights of up to 6 meters. To facilitate this growth, it is advisable to plant it slightly below ground level to create a dish that retains rainwater around the canes. Establishment may take one to two years, during which regular watering is essential. Additionally, it should be fertilized every other year in late spring after the initial shoots have fully developed. Green Bamboo thrives in full sun or partial shade, with an annual growth rate of 60 to 90 centimeters. Phyllostachys bissetii, in particular, is favored for its year-round green canes and foliage, making it a popular choice for privacy screens.
