Sapporo is a striking rose variety characterized by its large flowers featuring a blend of butter cream and a raspberry center. This unique color combination serves as a captivating focal point in any garden. The exotic Gladioli, originally from Africa, has reestablished its presence in British flower borders and as a popular cut flower. Its vibrant blooms, which alternate along tall stems, contribute vertical interest to the garden’s backdrop. Gladioli thrive in full sun and well-drained soil, and may require staking to prevent toppling. However, they tend to remain upright when planted deeply or alongside robust plants like Dahlias, which can provide support. To prolong the blooming period, it is advisable to plant corms at weekly intervals, using 12-14 cm corms.
