Sowing & Growing
Start by sowing the seeds indoors. Spread them evenly on moist, well-drained seed compost in a seed tray, ensuring good surface coverage. Begin the propagation process at a temperature of 18°C. Germination typically takes 10-14 days. Once the seedlings have reached a sufficient size, transplant them with care into 8cm pots, handling the root system delicately. Continue growing them in cooler conditions, ranging from 7-13°C.
Acclimatize the plants and, once the threat of frost has passed, plant them outdoors with a spacing of 100cm. Alternatively, you can sow the seeds directly, with germination occurring in approximately 1-2 weeks. For this plant, you can also consider sowing directly in an unheated greenhouse without the need for additional propagation measures.
In terms of growing conditions, this plant thrives in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter and fertilizer, placed in full sun. To encourage bushy growth, pinch out the growing tips and provide support with stakes if necessary. Keep the soil adequately moist during dry periods. Be mindful of blackfly infestations and address them as needed.
For cultivation, either cut flowers or deadhead to extend the flowering period. In the autumn, cut the plant back to ground level before lifting and storing the tuber for the winter. Propagation can be achieved through softwood cuttings taken in spring from stored tubers or by dividing tubers, ensuring each division has a viable bud.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
