Cocktail Crush, bred for resistance against blight, is a standard-sized red tomato known for its ability to withstand the dreaded blight. With fruits weighing 35-40g, this variety offers a sweet taste accompanied by a subtle, tangy acidity. It shares a similar habit and flavour profile with the beloved old favourite, Ailsa Craig, but with the additional advantage of demonstrating robust blight resistance. Well-suited for outdoor cultivation or in a cold glasshouse, Cocktail Crush combines flavour and resilience in a versatile tomato variety.

Sowing & Growing
For greenhouse cultivation, sow seeds from February to March, while for outdoor cultivation, sow from March to April. Place seeds on the surface of a good, free-draining, damp seed sowing mix, and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Utilize seed trays in a propagator with a consistent temperature of around 15-20C (59-68F) until germination occurs, typically taking 7-14 days.
Once seedlings have 2 true leaves, transplant them into individual 7.5cm (3″) pots of compost and grow at a minimum temperature of 15C (59F). In heated glasshouses, transplant tomato plants at the end of May or when the first flowers appear, if earlier. For growbags, allow 3 plants per bag, or one per 25cm (10″) pot. Alternatively, tomatoes can be directly planted into the greenhouse soil.
If growing tomatoes outdoors, wait until the risk of frost has passed before transplanting. Gradually acclimate the plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting out from early June when the tomato plants reach 20cm (8″) in height. Choose a sheltered, sunny spot with fertile, reliably moist, well-drained soil, and transplant at a distance of 60cm (24″) apart. Support each plant by driving a (5′) cane into the soil adjacent to it and tying each main stem to its support with soft garden twine.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
