Cabbage F1 Caraflex Coated Professional Seed

£1.50

Caraflex F1 is a distinguished variety that has previously received the RHS Award of Garden Merit. This pointed cabbage variety is an enhanced version of the ‘Hispi’ type, resulting in slightly larger heads that have a longer shelf life. Consequently, gardeners can enjoy an abundant supply of cabbage without the need for additional planting efforts. The Cabbage Caraflex F1 can be cultivated in a tunnel during the winter months, allowing for an earlier harvest in the spring. The leaves of this cabbage are highly nutritious and offer numerous health benefits, with the inner leaves being particularly rich in nutrients. It is not surprising that the Cabbage Caraflex F1 has been honoured with the RHS Award of Garden Merit, as it is an exceptional variety that is typically ready for harvest from June to September, unless grown in a tunnel.

Useful Information

Timing for Sowing: Begin sowing in succession from January through June. For early sowings, utilize a cloche, a propagator placed on a windowsill, or a greenhouse environment. Location for Sowing: Disperse seeds thinly in a well-prepared seed bed, creating shallow drills approximately 1.5 cm (3/4 inch) deep. Ensure the area remains adequately watered. After germination, thin the seedlings to a spacing of 8 cm (3 inches) between each plant, ensuring they are securely and deeply planted to establish a strong anchor in the soil. Subsequent Actions: Once the seedlings reach a height of 6 to 8 cm (2.5 to 3 inches), they are suitable for transplanting to their permanent growing location. It is advisable to water the seedlings thoroughly the day prior to transplanting. Harvest Period: From June to October. Practical Advice: Protect young plants with netting or fleece to deter birds and insects. Additionally, place a collar around the base of each plant to guard against cabbage root fly infestations. Companion Planting: Mint is effective in repelling Cabbage White Butterflies, Aphids, and Flea Beetles, while Thyme helps to deter Cabbage worms. Other beneficial companions include Sage, Oregano, and Nasturtium.
