If sowing Aquadulce broad beans in November is not feasible, Witkiem Manita serves as an excellent alternative. This variety exhibits exceptional cold tolerance and typically matures nearly as early as Aquadulce when sown in early spring. The pods produced are filled with large white beans. Witkiem Manita plants have a height of around 100cm and a width of 45cm, offering hardy annual characteristics.

Sowing & Growing
Sow Witkiem Manita seeds from February to April, with seedlings emerging in 7-14 days. For February sowings, use pots or root trainers in the greenhouse or under cloches. Later sowings can be directly drawn into the growing site, placing seeds 5cm (2in) deep in rows. Space the seeds 10-15cm (4-6in) apart, and have rows 60cm (24″) apart. If sowing indoors, transplant seedlings to the growing site in March, spacing them 10cm (4″) apart in rows 60cm (24″) apart.
Outdoor sowings should be thinned to 10cm (4″) apart, and the thinning can be transplanted to create extra rows. Once beans begin to form, remove the top 6cm (2 1/2in) to discourage blackfly. Harvest the succulent, tasty young beans from June to August. As a handy tip, this variety can also be sown in late October or November under cloches for an early spring crop.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
