Very large top quality roots
A Grade NAKT Certified Crown
• A good choice for replanting
👉 It’s specifically bred for high production and quality spears.
Backlim is a 100% male hybrid and highly suitable for production of white asparagus in a high climate. Backlim also performs well in green asparagus production. This variety is also extremely good for harvesting in the 2nd half of the season, combined with the harvest of an early variety such as Gijnlim. Backlim gives reliable yields and quality, both in greenhouses and when field grown – Backlim also grows well under plastic sheeting.
Backlim is suitable for all types of well-drained soils, and performs best with a planting density of 4 to 5 plants per metre. The recommended planting depth under normal conditions is 18 to 22cm, planting any deeper means harvesting will start later.
Backlim produces fine, straight stems with a firm tip and high resistance to hollowness, pink discolouration and rust. The quality increases as the plant ages. Backlims compact foliage, despite dying off naturally early in the autumn, ensures that a good store of reserves is built up for the plant.

Asparagus requires a well-drained, fertile soil that will need to be deeply dug over before planting. For best results dig in organic compost or manure in Autumn. Choose a sunny position with protection from the wind, raised beds are ideal.
PLANTING
Prepare a trench 30cm wide by 20cm deep, then create a mound of compost in the bottom of the trench. Lay the asparagus crowns on the mound 30cm apart, carefully spreading out the roots. Loosely cover with 5-10cm soil. As the stems grow, add more soil into the trench until it is completely filled.
CARE
Water the newly planted asparagus crowns and keep them watered during dry weather. In Autumn, cut the fern-like foliage back to 5-10cm above ground level. In Spring, add a general purpose fertiliser around the plants.
HARVESTING
The year after planting, cut the first spears for a period of 7-10 days. Cut the spears with a knife 5-7cm below the ground. The second season you can harvest for a period of 4 weeks, by the third year harvesting can continue for an eight week period. Each crown can produce up to 20 spears once established.
Plant as soon as possible after purchase. Keep in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place until planting. Keep free from frost.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
