Soil warming cables are an excellent solution for enhancing seed and cutting propagation in greenhouse benches or cold frames. Natural soil warming in greenhouses can be slow, but these cables allow for earlier planting and improved specimen growth. A basic wooden frame can be built to create the necessary propagating area, which should be lined with polythene. The cable is then placed on a 5 cm layer of sharp horticultural sand and covered with an additional 5 cm of sand. They provide consistent heat, necessitating regular monitoring and control of soil temperature via a thermostat.
