White cabbage “Amager kurzstrunkig” (Brassica oleracea convar. capitata var. alba) is a late variety that produces slightly flattened heads consisting of dark green leaves covered sparsely with waxy coating. The “Amager kurzstrunkig” variety does not break, hence is ideal for winter storing and pickling. It may also be consumed directly in salads or as addition to many dishes. White head cabbage is an important source of vitamins C, A, PP, B vitamins, as well as kalium, calcium, magnesium and iron. Cabbage leaves contain plenty of proteins, carbohydrates and fibre. White cabbage juice strengthens the body and is recommended for people fighting anemia.
White cabbage “Amager kurzstrunkig” is grown from seedlings. Its seeds are sown in April to a seed bed in 8-10 cm spacings. Seedlings are transplanted to the permanent site, when they have developed 3 – 4 true leaves, usual from the second half of May until mid-June. Young plants should be planted in 50-60 x 60-70 cm spacings. Sandy-clay, moist, non-acidic soils on sunny and wind-sheltered sites suit cabbage cultivation best. Cabbage heads are ready to be harvested in September and October.

I have just bought all my new seeds for next year’s vegetables after having such great results this year. Budget seeds are so helpful, I’m a newbie in the veg growing world and they have been helpful in choosing the best seeds to start with etc. also much cheaper than elsewhere so if I do mess up in the future it isn’t costing me so much. I thoroughly recommend Budget Seeds for all your veg and flower seeds.
